Rough Editing Identity

October 17, 2015

During the first edit of my family/identity video I figured that even though I have a lot of footage on my external drive, it's not the right footage. I will need to put more footage on it. So once again I'm compiling a list of things I need. Luckily, I have most of this on my laptop, however, some of it will have to come from my dad. So another Skype call is in my future. Or I could ask my uncle, as he also should have quite a few pictures.

After calling my dad I have now acquired some pictures of my mom and uncle when they were younger.
I will be sending over a list of other things I would like to see to my dad this weekend. I hope to get everything sorted in the next week, so that I can show my video to a few people before showing it in class.

During the process of editing I've learned a lot, both about myself and about how to use the editing software. For the first time in my life I've used After Effects to clean up footage.

Even though I've not used a camera myself in this project, the importance of composition and movement have become clearer to me. Due to the distance i have from the shooting of the footage, it's easier to determine what other people do 'wrong' and I could do 'right' the next time I'm holding a camera. It of course also helps that sound is not a factor in this short (which is the only reason I'm able to use footage of my mom without breaking down).
